Dr. Dennis Fernandez is a board certified general surgeon practicing in Huntsville, Alabama. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and formerly served as a clinical assistant professor, department of surgery at the University of Alabama Regional Campus. He is a member of the International College of Surgeons. A native of West Point, Georgia, Dr. Fernandez received his BS in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University and his MD from the University of South Alabama. He completed his residency at Caraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
Following his residency, Dr. Fernandez joined Alabama Surgical Associates P.C. In 2006, he started his own practice in Huntsville. Dr. Fernandez currently serves as Chief of Surgical Services at Crestwood Medical Center. He is credentialed at all hospitals in Madison County.
Dr. Fernandez is on the forefront of robotic surgery using the da Vinci® Si™ robot. On April 8, 2013, Dr. Fernandez performed his 100th robotic cholecystectomy. He was the first surgeon in Alabama to reach this milestone. He currently performs robotic appendectomies, cholecystectomies, hernia repairs, and complex hernia repairs including abdominal wall reconstructions.
When he’s not operating, Dr. Fernandez enjoys photography and is an auto enthusiast. Dr. Fernandez shares his life with his wife, Nancy.
